FlexFitClub with Ladies First Events @ Playlist Yoga

As 2016 is drawing to a close, I’m taking a moment to be grateful for the fitness community, especially the strong network we have in LA. Reflecting on some of the amazing events I’ve attended this past year, I feel very fortunate to have such a group of people who come together to support each other, both in fitness goals and personal life goals. To all the new friends I’ve made because of this and the old ones who I wish I saw more of, cheers to you!

Back in late November, I had the opportunity to attend a Ladies First Events fitness event after reading about its awesome sweatworking sessions in Well+Good. I loved the concept that founders Joanna and Donna Vo started for Ladies First Events and was thrilled to be surrounded by the crowd of accomplished bloggers and girlbosses of the fitness community who came out for the event.

The group yoga class, held at Playlist Yoga, provided the perfect atmosphere to mix and mingle with wellness minded social-media gurus. In fact, it was nice to start seeing some familiar faces at these events, as well as meet new people (which I guess is the point!). Being an introverted blogger is at times hard for me since it’s not second nature for me to go up to strangers and just start chatting, but the fitness community is definitely one of the most supportive and easy to break into communities out there. For that, I am grateful.

In addition to the amazing class led by Playlist CEO Missy Faul, the event was also sponsored by Nike’s Brahaus, which fitted everyone with a new Nike sportsbra, and 1915 Organic cold-pressed juice, Karuna beauty and Justin’s Nut Butters. It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon and I hope to attend more of Ladies First Events in the future to continue supporting its empowering spirit.

Check out the video from the event below and see the full gallery here.

Tropicana #Morning Spark Event with Tracy Anderson

As part of Tropicana Orange Juice’s new #MorningSpark campaign, the brand hosted a morning of fitness with celeb-trainer Tracy Anderson at Palihouse in West Hollywood. Fellow bloggers and wellness journalists gathered to take Tracy’s signature class and refuel with some delicious breakfast bites and Tropicana orange juice.

Luckily for Angelenos, rooftop workouts are still completely doable on a late November morning, and this event did not disappoint. Tracy led us through a shortened version of her class (you can take the full version at her TA studios) and it still provided an intense burn. For a review of her normal class, check out this post (I didn’t think I was going to make it!).

Post workout, guests got the chance to take pictures with the legend herself, and were also treated to a delicious and healthy al fresco breakfast powered by Tropicana. Ms. Anderson also sat down for some interviews, and here are some fun facts!

Five examples of how Tracy Anderson likes to start her day in a positive way:

  1. I wake up and connect right away to my smell and put on one of Leanne Hirsch’s perfumer acurandera natural scents.  I am crazy about them all but into the Jungle Rose Mariri these days.
  2. I connect face to face and with a big snuggle with both of my kids
  3. I make my morning smoothie.  My favorite is frozen mango, my vanilla TA CLEAR protein powder and Tropicana 100% orange juice. I have been starting my mornings with it since I was a kid.
  4. I head right to my workout first thing every day.  When you make working out part of your life stance you look forward to it as a treat not a chore.
  5. I wash my face with Ecco Bella face wash and follow up with their day cream because I really care about taking care of my skin in a way that takes care of the planet and is organic for my skin.

Thanks for hosting, Tropicana and Fleishman Hillard!werkoutla-and-tracy-anderson

The Ballet Bod

Class: The Ballet Bod

Location: AIR in Weho: 8474 W 3rd St #200, Los Angeles, CA 90048

Work-out: Ballet based toning and cardio fusion

Difficulty: 3

Next day soreness: 3.5

Duration: 27 min (30 with a stretch)

Sweat Level: A little dewy

Parking: Free lot

Amenities: Water station, blocks provided

Requirements for class: barefeet, bring a mat!

Yesterday, I was able to attend The Ballet Bod‘s U.S. launch event with founders Jenny and Winnie, and was excited to discover a new, challenging workout in 27 minutes. Having a background in ballet, I also really appreciated the fact that unlike barre, The Ballet Bod’s workouts actually incorporate real dance moves that have me feeling SORE today.

The class starts with a stretch and cardio warm-up on the mat, consisting of ballet jobs and grand battements. We then moved to the bar to do elevated tendus in first position with one leg on a block. These were KILLER! Finally, we ended with ab work on the mat and a nice stretch. I didn’t think 27 minutes of a ballet-based workout could be so intense, but it was!

The Ballet Bod also has an app subscription that allows you to do their workouts at home. The workout first started in Australia, and is now held for the first time in the U.S. Classes are from 8:30AM – 9AM at AIR in Weho, AND the best part is that they’re only $10 a class! If you’re short on time (and/or cash), this is the class for you!

Fithaus w/ Style Firm LA @ the Parker

Stylefirm Fithaus

Last weekend, I also had the chance go attend Style Firm LA’s Fithaus experience at the Parker in Palm Springs. Any time there’s an event at the Parker, you know it’s bound to be a good time, but Fithaus went beyond a beautiful location and delivered a great workout with delicious brunch and treats.

Fithaus brunch

Fithaus is a series of wellness events around large music festivals such as Coachella and Stagecoach, this particular one was centered around stagecoach. This particular event was cohosted by Style Firm LA and Qalo. Style Firm is a line of body shaping activewear, available on its website and Bloomingdales, and Qalo is a silicon wedding band concept that takes the place of your normal wedding band when you’re doing activities such as working out. I might also add that they have the cutest logo! (See below on the black tote.)

The day kicked off with a workout by Best U studio. You incorporate the metal U’s throughout class as you would dumbells, and don’t let the pretty colors fool you into thinking it’s easy. They come in 4 and 8 pounds and I could not even lift the 8 pound one while trying to do abs.

Fithaus Best U

Post workout, everyone was treated to a beautiful and delicious brunch with sips and a slew of different fun station for flower crowns by Cake & Punch, flash tattoos by Annabee Jewelry, coconut body oils by Kopari and other swag.

Cake and Punch

Cake & Punch specializes in event production and I have to say their flower crowns made from real flowers are possibly the most flattering ones I’ve ever worn. In fact, a week later and my flower crown still looks beautiful and fresh. (insert basic joke here :P)

Guests were also treated to some very pretty flash tats by Annabee, who had a station set up to get you ready for the festival.

My friend and fellow blogger Amanda also came with me and we had a blast lounging at the Parker. Qalo had a cute little area set up, and Stylefirm also brought a pickup truck full of their latest styles

Style Firm LA definitely knows how to host a fun wellness event, and they actually hosts these pretty regularly. Best part? It’s all free! Be sure to follow them on Instagram and Facebook to RSVP for their next event!

Bend + Burn Fitness Series by Style Firm LA

Style Firm LA is a new activewear brand launched here in LA. They are doing a free monthly fitness series at Bloomingdales in Santa Monica where different studios come to lead a variety of workouts. Tonight’s workout was led by Yogafit.

Class: YogaFit

Location: Studio is located in Brentwood

Work-out: Yoga

Difficulty: Level 3.5

Next day soreness: 3

Duration: 60 min

Sweat Level💦💦 Sweaty

Instructor Marxel (who teaches at Yogafit and Hot8) led quite the workout at Bloomingdales! I was definitely breaking a sweat between all the balancing, planking and attempted head-standing. If all of this was done at Bloomingdales, I can only imagine the intensity of a real studio class!

I attended the first event in Style Firm’s Bend + Burn series last month hosted by Orangetheory and had a great time so I was thrilled when the Style Firm ladies reached out to me about this one. Not only do you get a great workout, but there are always great refreshments, bubbly and snacks afterwards from Kombrewcha, Seasons 52 and more. Not to mention, we each got multiple swag bags and a bunch of Quest Nutrition goodies (which I LOVE). If you haven’t been to one of these events, be sure to sign up for the next one because they are a real treat! Marissa and Natalie of Style Firm also informed me that they will be hosting a fitness class at all LA Bloomingdales on Oct 3, so check back to get more info on that!

As someone who lives in workout clothes almost daily, I was also thrilled to discover that Style Firm has THE MOST comfortable sports bra I have ever worn. Not only is it soft with non constricting elastic, the Sculpt Web Sport Top is really stylish as well. Check out the pic below to see the cute back! You can get one here and save 25% with code “NAMASTE.”

Pointe Studio’s Sanity Not Vanity Series @ SoulCycle Manhattan Beach

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 6.20.59 PM

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to join Pointe Studio in its Sanity Not Vanity class at SoulCycle Manhattan Beach. Pointe Studio is an athletic sock brand specializing in cute grippy socks. This is the second class in heir #SanityNotVanity series, which is a free workout series and campaign with a great message:

A bit about it from Allie at Pointe Studio:

We are getting a little fed up with some of this unrealistic #fitspiration shit and are pretty bummed out that people are losing sight of the mental benefit of breaking a sweat everyday. Personally this has been a huge breakthrough for me. Working the brain is just as important as the booty in our minds. To combat this we have started doing pop up classes focused on the value of mental strength and empowerment- we have nicknamed it sweat therapy LOL.  You can read more about it here and here
To participate in future #SanityNotVanity events, be sure to follow Pointe Studio on social! Thanks for hosting such an awesome event with a great message! Now onto the review of the class.

Class: Soul 45

Location: The Point, Manhattan Beach

Work-out: Spin

Difficulty: Level 4

Next day soreness: 4

Duration: 45 min

Sweat Level💦 💦 Sweaty

Parking: Free lot at the Point

Amenities: Showers, shoes for rent and water/swag for purchase

Requirements for class: socks

This is SoulCyle’s newest LA location. The studio seats about 60 people and is conveniently located. Jake, my instructor, was one of the best SoulCycle instructors I’ve had. His energy was excellent and his class was just the right amount of challenging and motivating. I was even sore from doing the weight work the next day! I would definitely recommend checking out SoulCycle MB, and pre or post workout, there is plenty to do at the new shopping and dining center!

Y7 Studio LA Pop-Up

Class: Y7 LA Pop-Up

Location: Rebecca Minkoff store on Melrose Ave, current permanent Y7 location is at 8270 Melrose Ave in Weho, 90046

Work-out: Hot Yoga

Difficulty: Level 3.5

Next day soreness: 2

Duration: 60 min

Sweat Level💦 💦 Sweaty

Parking: Metered street parking

Amenities: Mats available if you don’t bring your own

Requirements for class: Bring water!

Who would’ve thought that hip hop and yoga paired so well together? When I initially heard about hip hop yoga, in my mind it was more rap heavy and less melodic, but in Y7’s hip hop yoga class, the beat flows with the vinyasa. I like my yoga classes high energy, and this was a high energy class that motivated me without being too aggressive (in movements and in music). It was a good mix of throwbacks and top 40 hip hop and the music was low when the instructor guided you through the movements, and then cranked up when you flowed at your own pace. We did about 3-4 flows, first couple of times with the instructor, and then we got a few minutes to flow on our own after we learned each sequence. Like all good workout classes, we started with a warm-up and cooled down with a stretch.

Kristen was a great instructor and pushed us without being too difficult. The particular class I took had a lot of balancing sequences. The space was small (since it was in a back room of Rebecca Minkoff’s flagship), but functional. The ambiance was very calming, even though the class was energetic. Fake candles lined the walls and the room was kept dark throughout class, which I really enjoyed. The vibe was definitely a little edgier and cooler than your average yoga class. Y7 is a New York favorite, and they’re hoping (and so am I) that with enough love from LA, they can have a permanent home here as well. The pop-up goes until Sunday and you can sign up via ClassPass or here.

Adidas by Stella McCartney Launch Party Workout w/ Celeb Trainer Nicole Winhoffer at SIX02

Nicole Winhoffer 2

This past Friday, I had the fortune of attending SIX02’s Adidas by Stella McCartney launch party and workout led by celebrity fitness trainer Nicole Winhoffer. Her clients include Stella McCartney and Madonna and after attending one session with her, I am officially hooked. She has an incredibly charismatic and hilarious personality and she has moves! (She has a professional dancer background).

The workout was an intense cardio and conditioning burn and worked almost every muscle in my body. It started at SIX02 in Santa Monica, where we checked in and then ran the quarter mile to Reed Park, where the rest of the workout unfolded. It was high energy, with models in front and a live DJ, and Nicole’s shining personality of course. Unfortunately, she is based in NY and her NW Method currently does not have a home here :(. After the workout, we all went back to SIX02 for light bites, juices and a killer swag bag. Ms. Ellen Pompeo, aka Dr. Meredith Grey, made a special guest appearance as well!

Like I said in my previous post, LA is lucky enough to be home to some of most fitness-minded people in America! There are always free events going on and SIX02 has a ton of them. You can sign up for more cool events like this one by checking out their page.
